TROMBONES

As a member of the trombone section, this "family" provides a welcoming and lighthearted community. Full of friendly and enthusiastic individuals, lifelong friendships are created between the members of the trombone section. Affectionately known as “bones,” The section is a valuable support system, helping members adjust to life in Ann Arbor.

Six rank leaders and one section leader make up the student leaders of the trombone section.

Prospective students are encouraged to reach out to their instrument’s section leader for the 2024-25 season to ask questions about auditioning or to learn more about their section and the ensemble. Please use the subject line “MMB Prospective Member Questions” when emailing section leaders.

“The trombone section is a family you will carry with you for the rest of your life. In my opinion, we're one of the most fun sections in the MMB, and the bonds we have are unbelievably strong. We keep in touch with alumni from decades ago and because of that, our traditions and love for each other run very deep. I feel like I can trust any person in my section with anything, and they will support me no matter what.”

WHAT IS THE trombone SECTION’s favorite…

part of band week?

After First Look, the trombone section dresses up and goes to BD's Mongolian Grill (affectionately called "BD Mongos") where we compete to see how much food each person can fit into their bowl.

rehearsal tradition?

Before pregame rehearsal, the trombone section stretches by doing "bouncies" where we laugh and shake off any stress before pregame.

social activity?

One of my favorite events the trombones do is called "Bonesgiving" where we all go to the South Quad dining hall when they serve Thanksgiving dinner. While there, we get as much food as possible and enjoy a Thanksgiving meal with the section.

game day tradition?

Before visualization, the trombone section plays a fanfare arranged by someone in the section to get everyone pumped up for the game.
